COUNCIL 4970’S LARGEST CHECK EVER TO CAMP RECREATION PRESENTED AT JANUARY BUSINESS MEETING

Our Council’s largest ever ID Drive check to the Camp ReCreation organization was presented to Camp Director, Carrie Judd, at our Business Meeting on January 14, 2025. The photos to the left show the presentation of the check by GK Frank Consulo and PGK Joe Romanazzi to Camp Director Carrie Judd and Brother Knights gathered around a very, very happy Carrie.
Donations to Arden-Carmichael Council 4970's 2024 ID Drive exceeded a breathtaking $35,800, shattering all previous records. Each year as part of our LIFE focus in the Faith in Action commitment, Arden-Carmichael Council 4970 hands out free Tootsie Rolls to raise money for Camp ReCreation. Camp ReCreation is a local non-profit for children and adults with physical and mental disabilities. Through local events and three one-week long summer camps, Camp ReCreation is able to create an inclusive and supportive environment for their camp friends to feel safe, loved and seen. Our Council's support of Camp ReCreation helps them to create a lasting impact on the local special needs community.
Brother knights have a guys night out, watching the Kings go up against the Heat. The Kings win in OT 123 to 118. Go Kings!!!
Bishop Soto hosts a lunch for all the priests on Labor Day. This is one of the few events in the year when all the Bishop and his brother priests get to break bread with each other.

SJE parishioners met in the Tralee Center October 12, 2024, to help celebrate Fr. Tom Bland's 50th anniversary as a priest. The Knights of Columbus made the food. It was a fantastic gala held in honor of an incredible man. Fr. Tom, you're a true shepherd who has taken good care of us, your sheep.

PGK Gene Gobbo Celebrates His 84th Birthday

PGK Gene Gobbo celebrated his 84th birthday with his Brother Knights prior to the start of our business meeting on November 12, 2024. Brother Gene’s birthday is November 8th, but Lady Knight Jeannie thought it would be fun to surprise her husband with a cake to share the occasion with his friends.A heartfelt CONGRATULATIONS goes to Jeff Hall, our Knight of the Month for November 2024. Jeff did a fantastic job coordinating the OLA parish and school Trunk or Treat event. Good work Jeff, and thank you for representing KofC Council 4970 for the OLA parish and school.

First day of Fall: 9-22-2024
Autumn is upon us once again!! Aaaaah...those beautiful crimson colors of the leaves. We will experience the Autumnal Equinox once again. The word "equinox" (aequi = equal, noct = night) is taken from the Greek, and it means equality between day and night. Each gets approximately twelve hours on this day. So, Happy Fall Y'all!!
Congratulations to our treasurer, Steve Millner, for receiving the Knight of the Month award for September 2024. It's well-deserved.
Council 4970 Grand Knight Frank Consulo (left) congratulates the winners of our 2024 Cornhole Tournament, Tremain Hayhoe (center) and David Allison (right) of the Tiger Kings. Heyhoe and Allison, both of who serve Council 6066, Fair Oaks, showed unparalleled finesse, endurance, and consistency. All of the games were fun, and there was an abundance of delicious food and drink. This was truly an enjoyable evening. We look forward to seeing more Knights get involved. A BIG shout out to Andrew Cunha (top left photo, on the left), for coordinating the tournament, and for cooking our meal.
Knights at the River Cats

We had wonderful night of fun, food, fellowship, friends, family, and we were teated to an amazing fireworks display to close out the evening. A HUGE shout out to Ken MacDonald for helping us get good tickets with awesome seats!Fraternal Brother and Sir Knight John Heiman, 81, passed away on July 16, 2024. Brother John was a member of the Knights of Columbus since August 9, 2006. He was an active participant in many activities sponsored by the Knights, including pancake breakfasts and ID Drives. Brother John also enjoyed outdoor activities like hunting, fishing and playing sports with family and friends. He possessed a warm smile and a keen sense of humor.
Past Grand Knights Gene Gobbo and Joe Romanazzi presented Lady Knight Donna with a Resolution of Condolence and a pair of Rosary beads blessed by our Supreme Chaplain, Archbishop William E. Lori. The Fourth Degree was represented by four Sir Knights from Christ the King Assembly 2797. They provided an Honor Guard and performed a Chalice Ceremony adding to the solemnity of the services.
Brother John is survived by his wife, Lady Knight Donna, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Brother John’s mortal remains were cremated and his ashes interred at Calvary Cemetery in Sacramento prior to his funeral service.
Good-bye for now Brother John until the day we all meet again in our Heavenly home. May the angels lead you to Paradise and may your soul and the souls of all of our deceased Council 4970 Brother Knights and Lady Knights rest in eternal peace. Amen.
Special Note: A Mass requested by our Council for the repose of Brother John’s soul will be celebrated at St. John the Evangelist Church in Carmichael on Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at 8:30 A.M.
Cornhole Tournament & BBQ
Saturday, August 24, 2024, at SJE. We will start at 6pm, following the 5pm mass. We will BBQ brats and serve beer. This event is open to all brothers of the order, and men from all three of our parishes SJE, SI, and OLA. The event is free, but donations will be accepted, and the money will benefit the school technology fund. Bring a partner or we'll provide one for you.

Ladies Night Out
Several Lady Knights, and their husbands, went to the Alta Arden Mimi's restaurant on July 30th to celebrate family, community, faith, and of course, delicious food.
Our Grand Knight of Council 4970, Frank Consulo (right side of the table, last chair), was present for the occasion. Everyone had a good time. There was a nice variety of menu options and everyone was was pleased with the quality of the food.Council 4970’s Intellectual Disability Drive Money Total is the Highest in the State for Columbian Year 2023-2024
The California State Council’s Intellectual Disabilities Drive Chairman, Past State Deputy Dave Abbott, reported on June 30th that during the 2023-2024 Columbian Year, California councils raised a grand total of $473,029.85 for people with intellectual disabilities. Here are the details:
$473,029.85 Collected State-wide
$85,327.59 Collected by the NorCal Chapter (18% of the total, the highest Chapter in the State).
$33,108.61 Collected by Council 4970 (39% of the Chapter and 7% of the State’s total), THE HIGHEST COUNCIL IN THE STATE.

Members of Council 4970 held elections for new officers at a recent business meeting. This special group photo includes both the old and new officers. New Council 4970 officers will be installed on 7/9/2024.
SJE parishoners, and members from other parishes in the American River Deanery, met at William B. Pond Park to celebrate Adoration at the River. The deacons and priests present, gave us a great eucharistic spiritual experience. We even saw a couple of deer pass by! In addition, we ate a tasty lunch, including hotdogs grilled by members of KOC Council 4970.

The Knights served fish and bread to 370 guests that came to celebrate the 70th anniversary of St Ignatius Parish.
The Bishop was there to mark the occasion.

The second Tournament was even bigger than the first. We began with 8 teams and after 15 double elimanation matches we were down to one.
The Cornholios could not be beat. The team consisted of Andrew Cunha and Jeff Hall. They were at the top of their game.
The other teams were USA, You Choose, Cave Lizzards, Tough Decision, Late Comers, Go Danny and Tumbleweeds.
My hats off to the players and Chef Frank. Frank kept the burgers and brats coming. We enjoyed chips, slaw and beer. Thanks everyone!!
The District 9 tournament was held at St Ignatius on Feb 16th.
With sadness and heavy hearts, we inform you that our Council 4970 Brother Knight, Ben Dougherty, passed away on December 17. Ben was in ICU in a deep coma and on a respirator since suffering a massive stroke a little over one week ago. Brother Ben was 49 years old at the time of his passing. He was a member of our Council since June 2019 and has served for several years as our Inside Guard. We grieve with Ben’s father and mother, Past Grand Knight Mike Dougherty and Lady Knight Rosemary, and the rest of the Dougherty Family. We ask God to lavish them with His heavenly grace and offer our love and prayers during this difficult time. Although his earthly journey has ended way too soon, we take solace that Brother Ben’s earthly suffering has also come to an end and his new life in Heaven has begun. Funeral services are being planned and will be announced when completed. Rest in Peace, Ben!
Our council's Knights and Ladies enjoyed a fabulous potluck dinner with lots of friendship and meeting new friends. A gift exchange was smoothly run by Brother Steve Millner. A very short meeting was held after the dinner.
At our December 12 council meeting Brother Len and his wife Paula were honored as the Family of the Month and presented a certificate by Family Program Director Shawn Herrick (center).
Council 4970 offered their vast culinary skills to the parishioners at St. John the Evangelist Parish in mid-November. The full pancake breakfast was deemed "excellent" by all.

Danielle Corcoran passed away on October 14, 2023 in Carmichael, California. She and her loving husband Brother Michael Corcoran (Past Grand Knight, Past Financial Secretary) have been long-time and active members of St. John the Evangelist Parish. She had lived a full life as a nurse, as a wife, as a mother, and especially as a grandmother. Funeral services were held at St. John's church.
May her soul and the souls of all the faithfully departed rest in peace. Amen
Emigh's Hardware was happy to have us come and solicit funds to support individuals in our community who are intellectually disabled. The public too must be happy to help because our total receipts were above last year's.
Several Knights helped out, along with many students from Presentation School.
The parishioners at St. Ignatius of Loyola Parish outdid themselves by contributing more than they did last year. Their support of individuals with intellectual disabilities is gratifying to see.

Our Lady of the Assumption Parish was the site of our second weekend raising funds to support Camp Re-Creation. The parishioners were exceedingly generous, closely matching their last year's contributions.

Funds were raised at St. John the Evangelist Church on the weekend of October 7 and 8 to support Camp Re-Creation, a camping experience for those with intellectual disabilities.
This event was also an opportunity to invite men of the parish to join the Knights of Columbus.
